Velvet Fools is a site for performance, a time for rituals that can heal, and a space that experiments with formats of contemporary ceremonies and dance. It's current meta-state is one of a travelling circus, made up of nomadic collaborators, stemming from the fields of contemporary dance, architecture, visual arts, living shamanism, and somatic-based therapies.
Velvet Fools was founded by Stefan Jovanovic' in October 2017, as a performance-salon, in the vaults of Testbed1, by invitation of architect Will Alsop and Doodle Bar's manager Jasmin Ford.
The first edition, Tarot Oracle Dance, invited a group of dancers, a musician, and a vocalist to improvise via movement, song and sculptural mobilisation; forming a method of oracle-reading where audiences acted as issue-holders. The sculptural set, known as the Tarothump, involved a set of silver totems, otherwise used for systemic constellatory readings.
The second edition, Meadow of Archives, focused on the threshold between a shamanic meditative ceremony and a dance performance. A group of dancers and one sound-artist were invited to respond to an orrated open-ended narrative, written about the constellation of characters depicted in tarotology.
